Defended or excused
Statement summary
Mamdani said his administration reviewed the law and found New York City lacks the independent legal authority to execute the ICC's arrest warrant against Netanyahu, and called on the federal government to do so, reiterating that he considers Netanyahu a war criminal.
“It is clear that we do not have the independent legal authority to enforce this warrant. The federal government, however, does, and I call on them to join the ICC and execute this warrant.”

Why we used this label
Mamdani defends the substance of his position (that Netanyahu should be arrested) while explaining the legal limit on his own authority, so this defends the campaign against Netanyahu rather than backing away from it.
Role at the time: Mayor of New York City, in an interview with PIX11's Henry Rosoff
Mixed or conditional
Response to this claim
Weaver later described private property, especially homeownership, as a weapon of white supremacy presented as wealth-building policy.
“Obviously, that's not an opinion that I share”

Why we used this label
The reference point is Weaver's posts on homeownership and the white middle class. Mamdani distances himself from her view that homeownership is a weapon of white supremacy while defending her appointment and record, two materially different positions in one answer, so we labeled it Mixed or conditional. Condemned loses because he does not criticize the remark beyond saying he does not share it, and Defended or excused loses because his defense is of her work rather than the wording. Evidence level: a Fox News clip of the question and answer, checked by ear, and a Fox News Digital report quoting it; we could not locate the full PIX11 interview.

NYC-DSA makes Tisch's dismissal conditional on ending police complicity with ICE after the Marble Hill confrontation. Chevalier calls for her to step down. City Hall plans to retain her.
An ICE officer shot a man in a car in Marble Hill on October 8. DHS calls it a targeted arrest and had not said by October 9 why the officer fired. Mamdani says early reports indicate agents surrounded the man and child before firing.
Mamdani mourned Israeli and Palestinian deaths in one October 7 anniversary statement. Walsh, Danon and Alkhatib said the date should focus on victims of Hamas's attack.
The Mamdani administration released more than 170,000 pages of City records and settled litigation over post-September 11 air-quality and health records, renewing debate about prior disclosure, accountability, and support for affected people.
Microsoft and teachers’ unions promote enforceable school-AI safeguards. Fairplay’s Josh Golin wants a five-year pause, while New York City permits restricted high-school pilots. Critics of those pilots say they should wait for evidence and assessment criteria.
Rudy Giuliani, George Pataki, and some September 11 victims’ relatives opposed Zohran Mamdani attending the 2026 memorial, citing his rhetoric and associations. Mamdani said he would honor victims; other elected officials and a family group said excluding the sitting mayor would politicize the commemoration.
Laura Loomer claimed an FBI source said Zohran Mamdani was denied a security clearance over possible terrorist contacts. Mamdani later announced he had his clearance, and Loomer repeated her allegations. What does the public record establish?
Mamdani calls Netanyahu a war criminal and wants federal enforcement of his ICC arrest warrant, though he says New York City can't execute it. Netanyahu accuses Mamdani of fomenting hate and inciting unrest against Jewish New Yorkers as Netanyahu visits the UN.
Wilbur Ross, Hilary Geary Ross and Steve Wynn challenge New York's second-home surcharge. Mamdani and Hochul defend taxing wealthy owners to fund city services. The dispute concerns fairness and constitutional limits.
Mamdani backs city enforcement against subscription traps. Industry comments challenged the added cancellation obligations and compliance costs, while the final rule changed its retention-offer clause but retained city penalties and restitution.
A deleted November 2018 post attributed to Cea Weaver said, “Impoverish the white middle class. Homeownership is racist / failed public policy.” Critics called it racist or disqualifying; defenders cited her tenant advocacy. Weaver expressed regret for some old wording without specifically retracting this sentence.
