Statement summary

Sen. Jacky Rosen said in a post on X that Hasan Piker had been trafficking in antisemitic tropes for a while and that his latest remarks were a new low. She said that blaming Jewish Americans for the violence and hate they face is wrong and gives an excuse to those who commit anti-Jewish hate crimes.

“Hasan Piker has been trafficking in antisemitic tropes for a while but even this is a new low Blaming Jewish Americans for the violence and hate they’re facing is not just wrong, it provides an excuse to those perpetuating these anti-Jewish hate crimes. Let me be absolutely clear: crimes against Jews for being Jews is antisemitism plain and simple. There’s no excuse for it.”

Why we used this label

The case asks how people responded to Piker's August 20 remarks about American Jews and Israel, including whether they read them as a warning or as an implicit threat. Rosen called the remarks a new low and said that blaming Jewish Americans for the violence and hate they face is wrong and gives an excuse to those who commit anti-Jewish hate crimes. That rejects the remarks directly, so we labeled it Condemned.

Statement summary

In press releases announcing a Senate bill to restore Iran war casualty records, Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) said the Trump administration's decision "to reclassify and dishonor the deaths of our servicemembers" in the war is "disgraceful and beyond the pale." The bill, led by Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), would require restoration of casualty records for Iran-related operations since February 28, 2026, according to Duckworth's release.

“The Trump Administration’s decision to reclassify and dishonor the deaths of our servicemembers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the war in Iran is disgraceful and beyond the pale”
Read the official statement (opens in a new tab)Rosen Helps Introduce Bill to Accurately Reflect Casualty Records of Fallen, Wounded Servicemembers from War in Iran · Jacky RosenSecond paragraph after the dateline: first quotation attributed to Senator Rosen
Why we used this label

Rosen calls the decision to reclassify servicemembers' deaths "disgraceful and beyond the pale," an express criticism of how the Pentagon handled the count; her words address the July reclassification of servicemember deaths and predate the Washington Post's Sept. 18 report of additional deaths. The closest competing label is “Challenged the characterization”, because she disputes how the deaths were categorized. That loses because she goes past the label to denounce the decision itself.
