Response to this claim

Small AI models may be months away from being capable enough to self-replicate on commercial internet-of-things devices, such as smart ovens and off-brand Android TV boxes.

“AI models can self-replicate and spread like worms without datacenter infrastructure? Yeah, no. ... The experiment was engineered to succeed, and even then, it failed to demonstrate the headline. ... Stop confusing speculative scenarios with demonstrated capabilities. Fear isn't evidence.”

Why we used this label

The reference point is Anthropic's statement that its experiments suggest small AI models may be months away from being capable enough to self-replicate on commercial internet-of-things devices. Condemned: Kurtzer expressly rejects the warning and says the experiments do not support it. The closest competing label is Challenged characterization; it loses because he goes beyond disputing the word self-replication and argues that the evidence fails to show the capability the warning describes.
