In a Sept. 18 Bluesky post that links the Washington Post's report, Duckworth wrote that 22 servicemembers "have been killed" in the Iran war, "Not 18 like we were told," and that the Pentagon "hid four more heroes' deaths from us for months." She added that she wrote a bill "we can pass to stop this egregious playbook immediately."

Why we used this label

Duckworth expresses that the published figure of 18 is wrong and that the Pentagon hid four more deaths, an allegation that the count is incomplete; the figure of 22 and the word "killed" are her own framing, firmer than the Post's report of at least 22 or 23 from anonymous officials. The closest competing label is Challenged the characterization. That loses because she goes beyond disputing the published figure: she says the Pentagon hid deaths and that Congress cannot let them get away with it.
