Statement summary
Kane argues that exempting political calls would weaken consumer protections and create a content-based distinction vulnerable to constitutional challenge.
“Because the petition would weaken consumer protections while creating significant constitutional risks, the Commission should deny it.”

Why we used this label
Relative to the proposed political-call exemption, Kane expressly argues that the FCC should reject it. Supporting equal treatment of AI and non-AI calls does not amount to support for this exemption.
Club for Growth asked the FCC to let political callers use prerecorded or AI voices on cellphones without prior consent, subject to call limits and opt-outs. Commissioner Anna Gomez, Common Cause and the Center for Democracy and Technology oppose the request, which is pending.
