Role at the time: U.S. Representative for Minnesota's 5th District
Statement summary
Omar said Trump reaches for her name whenever the news turns bad and said her name has always been Ilhan Omar.
“Whenever the news turns bad, this creep reaches for one name: mine. So let’s make it crystal clear. My name has always been Ilhan Omar.”
Rep. Ilhan Omar's own X post responding to Trump's October 22 Truth Social post about her name.
Omar rejects Trump's fraud and false-name accusation and calls such claims conspiracy theories, condemning the public accusation this case scrutinizes.
Role at the time: U.S. representative for Minnesota's 5th District
Statement summary
Omar rejects Trump's statement that the matter is up to the Justice Department. She says the department that once found her citizenship solid now says something is wrong, which she says shows the investigation is political.
“Oh, absolutely not. I mean, he's got everything to do with it. ... And so for them to say that my status as a citizen in this country was solid, and then to have that same department now saying there's something wrong, tells you how political this whole investigation is.”
Full interview recorded for All In with Chris Hayes. Omar describes the October 12 search and answers questions about the investigation and Trump's role in it.
Archived copy (opens in a new tab)Relative to the search of her home and the investigation behind it, Omar calls the investigation political and says Trump is directing it. That is a condemnation.
Role at the time: U.S. Representative for Minnesota's 5th District, through a letter from attorneys Amy Jeffress and Joshua Matz to federal prosecutors
Statement summary
In a letter to the prosecutors handling the investigation, Omar's attorneys said the investigation is politically motivated, violates Omar's constitutional rights and threatens the separation of powers, and that the search of Omar's home was neither justified nor lawful.
“This vindictive, retributive, and politically motivated criminal investigation into one of the President’s chief congressional critics violates Representative Omar’s constitutional rights and threatens the separation of powers”
Associated Press report on the October 16 letter from Omar's attorneys, which the AP obtained. It quotes the letter and the Justice Department spokesperson's response.
Archived copy (opens in a new tab)The reference point is whether the federal search of Omar's home was politically motivated, as Omar and Democratic leaders allege. Omar's lawyers call the investigation "vindictive, retributive, and politically motivated" and say it violates Omar's constitutional rights, so we labeled it Condemned. The closest competing label is Challenged characterization, since the letter also disputes the immigration allegations; it loses because the letter directly attacks the investigation and calls the search unlawful.
Role at the time: U.S. Representative for Minnesota's 5th District, through spokesperson Jacklyn Rogers
Statement summary
Responding to reports that the investigation aims to revoke Rep. Ilhan Omar's citizenship, her spokesperson Jacklyn Rogers told USA Today that it "isn't a legitimate law enforcement action" and called it "an authoritarian move to silence an opponent right before an election".
“This isn't a legitimate law enforcement action,” … “It is an authoritarian move to silence an opponent right before an election where he and his party will be rejected by Americans in historic proportions.”
USA Today reports, citing two people familiar with the matter, that the probe is aimed at revoking Omar's citizenship and deporting her if investigators can prove she or her relatives lied to immigration authorities. It quotes a statement from Omar's spokesperson, Jacklyn Rogers.
Omar's office rejects the investigation and the push to revoke her citizenship as illegitimate and politically motivated. That condemns the accusation and its pursuit.
Role at the time: U.S. Representative for Minnesota's 5th District
Statement summary
Omar says the search of her home is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement.
“I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement”
Reports the Justice Department's statement on the search, Omar's post, Trump's remarks and Tom Emmer's post. The link between the search and Omar's immigration paperwork comes from an anonymous senior administration official.
The reference point is whether the federal search of Omar's home was politically motivated, as Omar and Democratic leaders allege. Omar calls the search "an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement", so we labeled it Condemned. The closest competing label is Challenged characterization, since she disputes how the investigation is presented; it loses because she directly denounces the search itself.
Role at the time: U.S. representative for Minnesota's 5th District, on the congressional office's X account
Statement summary
Omar said Flock cameras track people's every move and raise serious civil rights concerns, warned that Big Tech is pushing the country toward an AI surveillance state, and called for banning Flock.
“Flock cameras track your every move. It’s creepy, dangerous, and raises serious civil rights concerns. Big Tech is pushing us toward an AI surveillance state. Americans deserve privacy, not unchecked surveillance. Ban Flock NOW.”
Post from Omar's official congressional X account, @Ilhan, which links to omar.house.gov and says it is managed by staff.
Relative to whether networked license-plate surveillance should exist, Omar calls Flock cameras creepy and dangerous and writes "Ban Flock NOW", so we labeled it Condemned. On the remedy ladder this is Ban or remove, the strongest step the post names.
Role at the time: U.S. representative for Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, answering questions from Fox News Digital reporter Nicholas Ballasy
Statement summary
Asked by Fox News Digital’s Nicholas Ballasy for a response to statements by DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin and Tom Homan that, in his words, she “allegedly violated immigration law” and is “under criminal investigation,” Rep. Ilhan Omar suggested he ask them what information they have. Asked whether DHS had reached out to her formally or sent her any letters, she said no, and said no again when Ballasy asked “Not at all?” Asked about the allegation that she married her brother, she said “the right wing has always had this shit going, so I don’t really worry about it,” and closed the exchange with “You have a good day.”
“Why don’t you follow up with them and ask them what is the information that they have” … “The right wing has always had this shit going, so I don’t really worry about it. You have a good day.”
The video posted by Fox News Digital reporter Nicholas Ballasy at 5:42 a.m. EDT on September 19, 2026, the day after Fox published its version. Neither says when the exchange was recorded. Fox bleeps Omar's profanity; this video does not.
Omar answers the officials’ claims by telling the reporter to ask them what information they have, by saying DHS has not contacted her, and by dismissing the marriage allegation as something the right wing “has always had this shit going.” That criticizes the accusation as a recurring partisan attack, though she does not address in this exchange whether it is true. The closest competing labels are “Challenged the characterization”, because she questions the officials’ information and says she has not been contacted, and minimizes, because she says she does not “really worry about it.” They lose because she goes beyond disputing a description by characterizing the accusation itself as something the right wing “has always had this shit going,” and she concedes no concern to downplay. Ending the exchange does not make it “Explicitly stayed out”, because she answered each question first.
Role at the time: U.S. representative for Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, answering questions from a LindellTV correspondent
Statement summary
Asked by LindellTV’s Alison Steinberg whether she married her brother, Rep. Ilhan Omar answered “Absolutely not,” called the question “ridiculous” and the idea “disgusting,” and, asked “Why are you being criminally investigated?”, said “I am not.” Asked whether Tom Homan is “a liar,” she said, “He is. He’s been saying some dumb shit, like you.”
“Absolutely not. What a ridiculous thing to ask.” … “Absolutely not. That’s disgusting. Nobody should be doing that.” … “I am not.” … “He is. He’s been saying some dumb shit, like you.”
A 39-second video posted by LindellTV at 2:57 p.m. EDT on September 16, 2026, in which its correspondent Alison Steinberg questions Rep. Ilhan Omar on camera. LindellTV's caption censors Omar's profanity; the audio does not.
Archived copy (opens in a new tab)Omar flatly denies the marriage allegation, denies that she is under criminal investigation, and says of Homan, “He’s been saying some dumb shit.” That expressly rejects and denounces both the accusation and the announced investigation. The closest competing label is “Challenged the characterization”, because she disputes the facts; it loses because she also denounces the accusation as “disgusting” and attacks the official who announced the investigation.
Role at the time: U.S. representative for Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, answering Fox News Digital reporters’ questions
Statement summary
Asked by reporters about Vice President JD Vance’s claim that the Justice Department is investigating her, Rep. Ilhan Omar said “that is not something that is happening.” Asked whether she thinks they will find anything, she said “absolutely not,” that “I don’t think they are using any resources,” and that “they’re just saying stupid shit.” Asked whether she had been told she is the subject of an investigation, she said “no, because there’s nothing to investigate.” Fox prints her first answer as “That man is delusional.”
“That is not something that is happening. That man is delusional.” … “Absolutely not. I don’t think they are using any resources. They’re just saying stupid shit.” … “No, because there’s nothing to investigate.”
Fox News Digital's video of Rep. Ilhan Omar answering reporters' questions about Vice President JD Vance's claim that the Justice Department is investigating her, published May 21, 2026; Fox does not say when it was recorded. Her first answer, which Fox prints as "That man is delusional," is hard to make out on the recording. Fox prints her profanity as "s---."
Archived copy (opens in a new tab)Omar rejects the claim that the Justice Department is investigating her, says “they’re just saying stupid shit,” and says there is “nothing to investigate.” That denounces the claim that an investigation exists; in this exchange she does not address the marriage allegation itself. The closest competing label is “Challenged the characterization”, because she disputes the claim that an investigation exists; it loses because she also derides the claim and says nothing will be found.
Role at the time: Member of the U.S. House of Representatives
Statement summary
Ilhan Omar signed the congressional letter criticizing DOJ's broad denaturalization priorities and requesting safeguards.
“Action: Signed the July 31, 2025 congressional letter challenging DOJ's expanded denaturalization priorities. Signature appears on page 6.”
The signers criticize the scope of DOJ's June directive and request enforcement counts and safeguards. They accept rigorous denaturalization proceedings against former Nazis who concealed their crimes. Their warnings about political targeting are allegations and concerns, not court findings.
Archived copy (opens in a new tab)Signing the letter expresses criticism of the expanded campaign under scrutiny. Acceptance of rigorous revocation proceedings in grave fraud cases does not make the letter's criticism of this directive conditional.
