Candidate's positions as published on the candidate's Ballotpedia profile, drawing on the Candidate Connection survey and campaign materials; the page is undated, so the access date is used as the publication date.

Role at the time: Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Florida and Florida state representative, interviewed on the MS NOW podcast "Clock It with Symone & Eugene"
Response to this claim
Angie Nixon said in an MS NOW interview published September 24, 2026 that national Democratic leaders are reluctant to fund her Senate campaign, and attributed that reluctance to her progressive politics and to her race and gender.
“Folks are a little gun-shy because, unfortunately, Vice President [Kamala] Harris lost as a Black woman, and so people are being very hesitant in terms of funding Black women, especially in the South.”
MS NOW article by Eugene Daniels, published September 24, 2026, reporting Nixon's remarks from the MS NOW podcast "Clock It with Symone & Eugene," a DSCC spokesperson's response, and accounts from a senior Democratic aide and a DSCC aide whom MS NOW did not name. We did not locate the episode's audio or a transcript, so Nixon's words are cited as the article prints them.
Archived copy (opens in a new tab)Nixon asserts the identity half of the proposition the case tests. She attributes the hesitation to "folks" and "people" without naming an official or committee in this passage, and MS NOW frames the two explanations as her account of why party leaders are holding back. We labeled it Condemns because it criticizes the conduct at issue and supplies the second reason the case tests.

Response to this claim
Angie Nixon said in an MS NOW interview published September 24, 2026 that national Democratic leaders are reluctant to fund her Senate campaign, and attributed that reluctance to her progressive politics and to her race and gender.
“So I think that may be the main issue.”
Archived copy (opens in a new tab)The case asks whether Nixon's ideology and identity explain why national Democratic leaders have not committed major spending. Here Nixon asserts the ideological half directly, though she hedges with "may be," and she does not cite a statement or decision by a named official. We labeled it Condemns because it criticizes the conduct at issue and supplies one of the two reasons the case tests.
Role at the time: Florida state representative and Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, posting on X
Statement summary
Florida Democratic Senate nominee Angie Nixon wrote that "we can't normalize bigoted name-calling" and that, whatever the policy disagreements with Jeffries, "we can't fan the flames of deep-seated racism."
“We can’t normalize bigoted name-calling. Black folks deserve safety and to be treated with basic decency and respect like everybody else. Regardless of policy disagreements with Rep. @hakeemjeffries, we can't fan the flames of deep-seated racism that is a threat to Black lives.”
Angie Nixon's own post on X on September 5, 2026. Wajahat Ali quote-posted it later that day, saying Rula Jebreal had apologized again on Joy Reid's show.
The reference point is whether Jebreal's remarks about Jeffries were racist. Nixon calls the name-calling aimed at Jeffries bigoted and describes it as fanning deep-seated racism, while setting aside policy disagreements with him. That expressly rejects the remarks, so we labeled it Condemned. Mixed or conditional loses because her mention of policy disagreements does not qualify her conclusion about the language. Evidence level: the speaker's own post on X.

Response to this claim
Angie Nixon said in an MS NOW interview published September 24, 2026 that national Democratic leaders are reluctant to fund her Senate campaign, and attributed that reluctance to her progressive politics and to her race and gender.
“I would say, I mean, you already know what the issue probably is. Unfortunately, it is why Laura Loomer attacked me. For some reason, people feel as though Black women especially, but Black candidates cannot win statewide offices in the South. But Barack Obama won Florida twice. And we can actually win when we invest here in the state.”
Joy Reid's full video interview with Nixon, posted by The Joy Reid Show on September 5, 2026. Reid asks whether the DSCC has committed to fund Nixon's race, why the party spends in Texas but not Florida, and how she responded to a Bakari Sellers remark that Reid described as saying not to spend on her race.
Archived copy (opens in a new tab)The case asks whether Nixon's ideology and identity are why national Democrats have not committed major spending to her campaign. Nixon gave an identity explanation for the party's reluctance: a belief that Black women and Black candidates cannot win statewide in the South. That asserts the identity half of the proposition, so we labeled it Condemned. Her words are a view about what people believe, not evidence of any decision.

Response to this claim
Angie Nixon said in an MS NOW interview published September 24, 2026 that national Democratic leaders are reluctant to fund her Senate campaign, and attributed that reluctance to her progressive politics and to her race and gender.
“They have stated that they'll help me connect with senators right now to work to allow some of those individual senators to back the campaign. ... making commitments to fund and put money behind us, no. ... there's text messages that are going out in regards to some Senate seats. But me and a few other progressive candidates are not on those text messages. And it's frustrating because we know that we have the opportunity to flip this seat here in Florida.”
Nixon said the DSCC had made no funding commitment and that she and a few other progressive candidates were not on the text messages about some Senate seats. She did not say in this passage why, but she criticized the lack of commitment and pointed to progressive candidates being left out, which is in line with the ideology half of the proposition, though she did not say that was the reason, so we labeled it Condemned.

Response to this claim
Angie Nixon said in an MS NOW interview published September 24, 2026 that national Democratic leaders are reluctant to fund her Senate campaign, and attributed that reluctance to her progressive politics and to her race and gender.
“they may not be treating it as a competitive race, but I have to continue to prove that it is. ... I know that initially no one was going to really invest in this state.”
MS NOW video posted September 25, 2026 from its podcast interview with Nixon, which MS NOW reported on in an article on September 24. The hosts ask whether not having met Schumer face to face shows how the party views her race and chances, and whether the DSCC has sent real money.
Archived copy (opens in a new tab)The case asks whether Nixon's ideology and identity are why national Democrats have not committed major spending to her campaign. Nixon accepted that national Democrats may not be treating the race as competitive but disputed that it is not, pointing to her primary win. She did not say in this passage that ideology or identity explains the decision. We labeled it Challenged the characterization because she disputes the premise that Florida is not worth funding.

Response to this claim
Angie Nixon said in an MS NOW interview published September 24, 2026 that national Democratic leaders are reluctant to fund her Senate campaign, and attributed that reluctance to her progressive politics and to her race and gender.
“I understand people have turned their backs on Florida. I understand that Florida is an expensive state. ... our campaign does not need as much money as any of these other campaigns. ... we need to remain competitive and we will remain competitive if they can give us some money to stay up on commercials.”
Nixon acknowledged that Florida is expensive and that people have turned their backs on it, while asking for a modest amount of television money. She did not attribute the lack of commitment to ideology or identity in this passage. Because she combines an acknowledgement of the cost with a request that the party fund her anyway, we labeled it Mixed or conditional.

Response to this claim
Angie Nixon said in an MS NOW interview published September 24, 2026 that national Democratic leaders are reluctant to fund her Senate campaign, and attributed that reluctance to her progressive politics and to her race and gender.
“that is a question that you would have to have for Mr. Schumer ... whether or not he gives me money or not, I'm depending on the people.”
Video of Nixon's interview on Power 105.1 FM's The Breakfast Club, posted on the show's YouTube channel on September 25, 2026. The hosts ask about her call with Schumer, which they say they read about in an article.
Archived copy (opens in a new tab)The case asks whether Nixon's ideology and identity are why national Democrats have not committed major spending to her campaign. Asked what Schumer is looking into, after a host said Schumer and establishment Democrats should be standing behind her, Nixon said that is a question for Schumer and did not give a reason. We labeled it Explicitly stayed out because she declined to speak for Schumer's decision.

Archived copy (opens in a new tab)The case asks whether Nixon's ideology and identity are why national Democrats have not committed major spending to her campaign. Nixon disputed Sellers's winnability reason by saying he does not know Florida. In this passage she did not say whether ideology or identity affect funding. We labeled it Challenged the characterization because she disputes the premise that her race is not worth funding.
