Nixon says Democrats made a huge mistake by not investing in Florida
Angie NixonFlorida Democratic Senate nominee
Asked by Dasha Burns whether Democrats have been making a mistake by underinvesting in Florida, Nixon says they have, pointing to laws she says started in Florida and spread to other states and the federal government. She says people should invest in Florida rather than divest from it.
“The Democrats have been making a mistake by under investing in this state period. Democrats, they made a huge mistake by not investing in this state, and we have seen the devastation of it all across the country. There are laws that are now on the books in states all across the country because Florida was ground zero. We’ve been the testing ground. And then some of those same laws have been federalized; those anti-DEI laws, the stop woke laws, right, the halo bill where they made it so you can’t be 25-50 feet away from a police officer while they’re arresting folks because...if they tell you to get away because they can, you know, now arrest you for that. And the only reason that they created the halo bill is it was after George Floyd was murdered, was executed. And they don’t want people to catch bad cops doing bad things. And so it is just devastating. People should not divest from the state of Florida. They should invest in the state of Florida.”

Where this statement fits
Are national Democrats holding back money from Angie Nixon's Florida Senate campaign because of her ideology and identity?
On September 24, 2026, Angie Nixon, the Democratic nominee for the Florida U.S. Senate seat held by Republican Sen. Ashley Moody, told MS NOW that national Democratic leaders are reluctant to fund her campaign and gave two explanations: her progressive politics, and her race and gender. A spokesperson for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) told MS NOW the committee monitors all races closely, including Florida. The committee's executive director, Devan Barber, has said additional investments require additional resources. Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings on record as of September 30, 2026 show a joint fundraising committee that includes the DSCC, a $5,000 contribution from a leadership PAC the FEC lists under Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, and DSCC transfers totaling $24,000 to the Democratic Executive Committee of Florida in its July and August reports, but most of the period since the August 18 primary has not yet been reported. This case sets out what each side has said and what the filings show.

Interview
About this source
POLITICO publishes an unedited transcript of two interview sessions. The complete video was uploaded October 23; exact recording dates are not specified.
Before the quotation
Earlier in the interview Nixon says the DSCC has become very helpful, connecting her to donors and hosting fundraisers, and attributes the slow national response to Florida being a big, expensive state. Asked whether race has played a role, she says she would not necessarily say so about party leaders, and that donors may hesitate because they think the state is racist.
After the quotation
She goes on to say Florida has been winning on progressive issues and that her campaign needs money to answer what she calls lies and disinformation. POLITICO posted the interview video on October 23 and the full transcript on October 26.
How this statement is classified
The label describes this statement's response within the context above.
Why this label?
Relative to whether national Democrats are holding back money from Nixon's campaign, and why, Nixon says Democrats made a huge mistake by not investing in Florida. She criticizes the holdback, so condemns fits. In earlier answers in the same interview she credits the DSCC's recent fundraising help and says she would not necessarily say race has played a role with party leaders, so this passage does not repeat her earlier explanation about identity.
