Jon Ossoff says the president launched the Iran war on lies

Jon OssoffU.S. senator from Georgia and Democratic candidate for reelection, at a campaign event

At a Georgia campaign event, Sen. Jon Ossoff said three more U.S. service members had been confirmed killed in action in a war he said the president launched on lies. He contrasted the administration's claim that Iran's nuclear program had been obliterated with its later claim of an imminent threat, and its predictions that the war would last days or weeks.

“We just learned over the weekend: three more confirmed killed in action from this war the president launched on lies. Do you all remember that he declared victory on the fourth day of this war? Do you remember last year they told us they had obliterated Iran’s nuclear program? Then this year they told us that it posed an imminent threat to our national security, and they had to take us to war. They told us it would just last a few days. They told us it would just last a few weeks.”

About this source

Video clip posted by @Acyn on X on October 11, 2026, of Sen. Jon Ossoff speaking at a Georgia campaign event about the Iran war, U.S. casualties and living costs, with a transcript of his remarks in the post text.

Before the quotation

Ossoff spoke at a campaign event in front of United for Georgia signs, in a clip Acyn posted on October 11, 2026.

After the quotation

He then said the administration has been covering up combat casualties to deceive the public about the war's cost, and blamed the war for a global energy crisis and record diesel prices. The Pentagon's casualty tables dated October 9 list 21 deaths in the war, three more than the 18 they listed on September 18. All three additions are recorded as non-hostile deaths, and the tables list no hostile deaths after July.

How this statement is classified

Condemned

The label describes this statement's response within the context above.

Why this label?

The case tracks support for continued U.S. military operations against Iran, which Congress has not formally authorized, including whether a candidate would vote for a war powers resolution to remove U.S. forces from hostilities. Ossoff says the president launched the war on lies and lists the administration's shifting justifications and predictions. That rejects the war, so we labeled it Condemned.

Christopher Lancia says he would not fund an expanded Iran conflict without clear intelligence and a defined mission

Christopher Lancia

“As a member of Congress, I would not support additional funding for an expanded military conflict without clear intelligence, documented evidence of the threat, a defined mission, and a full understanding of what we’re asking our military to do. I would want to review that intelligence myself before making a decision that could put American lives at risk. I will always support doing whatever is necessary to defend the United States and protect the American people. But I will never support sending our sons and daughters into another unnecessary war simply because Washington decides that’s what we should do.”
