Seth Harp says he would vote to remove U.S. forces and opposes an open-ended war with Iran
Seth HarpDemocratic candidate for U.S. House in Florida's 3rd district, in an emailed statement
Seth Harp, the Democratic candidate for Florida's 3rd congressional district, said in an emailed statement that he would vote for a War Powers Resolution directing the removal of U.S. forces from hostilities with Iran. He said he opposes an open-ended war without a defined mission or exit strategy, while supporting defense of American troops if attacked, stopping Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, and diplomacy wherever possible.
“Yes, I would vote for a War Powers Resolution directing the removal of U.S. forces with regard to Iran. I oppose dragging the United States deeper into a war with Iran. If American troops are attacked, we defend them, period. But defending our troops is not the same as giving Washington permission to launch another open ended war with no clear mission and no exit strategy.”

Below is my statement. Additionally, yes, I would vote for a War Powers Resolution directing the removal of U.S. forces with regard to Iran. I oppose dragging the United States deeper into a war with Iran. If American troops are attacked, we defend them, period. But defending our troops is not the same as giving Washington permission to launch another open ended war with no clear mission and no exit strategy. I have had enough of politicians treating American service members like pieces on a chessboard. If you want to send Americans into combat, tell the American people exactly why, define what victory looks like, explain how it ends, and go before Congress to make the case. No blank checks. No regime-change fantasies. No endless escalation because someone in Washington is afraid to admit there is no plan. I support a strong national defense, I support stopping Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, and I support defending American troops with overwhelming force when necessary. But I will not support another forever war. Protect America. Protect our troops. Use diplomacy wherever possible. Follow the Constitution. And when the mission is over, bring our people home. Best regards, Seth Harp

“I support an effort to stop attacks on Americans by Iran and its’ proxies, restore peace in the Middle East and the restoration of prosperity to Iranian people. How we get there is the something that must be addressed. I am not in favor of boots on the ground at this time, but to make a final judgement without understanding capabilities, ally support and course of action would be premature.”Read statement

“I oppose the war in Iran because military action without clear objectives or congressional authorization risks American lives, destabilizes the region, and could draw us into another prolonged conflict.
