Trump says the BBC's January 6 edit defamed him; the BBC disputes his claim
Trump says a BBC documentary edit falsely portrayed him calling for violence on January 6. The BBC apologized for the editing decision but disputes defamation. The parties continue to contest the case in federal court.

Overview
The documentary aired on October 28, 2024. In its November 13, 2025 correction, the BBC accepted that its edit unintentionally created the mistaken impression that Trump had made a direct call for violent action and apologized. Its programme page says the episode is not currently available and will not be broadcast again in that form.
Trump filed suit in December 2025 and a first amended complaint on August 10, 2026. He alleges that the edit falsely portrayed him as calling for violence, that the BBC acted with actual malice and that Florida viewers accessed the programme. The BBC's August 24 motion contests jurisdiction, harm and actual malice; it says the programme was not authorized for U.S. broadcast and was geoblocked. On October 13 the BBC sought a discovery hearing to address scheduling Trump's deposition.
