Overview

In her letter dated September 13, 2025 (opens in a new tab), published September 14, Heather Cox Richardson wrote that Tyler Robinson, accused of killing Charlie Kirk, appeared to have embraced the far right and was not on the left. Her previous letter (opens in a new tab), dated September 12 and published September 13, suggested he appeared to admire Groypers.

The September 16 charging document (opens in a new tab), pages 7-8, attributes to Robinson's mother an account of a leftward political shift and reproduces messages about Kirk. It is a prosecution filing, not a verdict. Nate Silver criticized (opens in a new tab) Richardson's Groyper inference and lack of correction in April 2026.

In an August 2026 Boston Globe interview (opens in a new tab), Richardson defended her original wording as a snapshot of information available at the time.
