Ramaswamy's campaign defends using Amy Acton's estranged mother in an attack ad

Overview
The case tracks responses to the Ramaswamy campaign's use of Donna Arthur, Acton's estranged mother, in an ad urging Ohio voters to reject Acton. It does not resolve the family's abuse allegations or Arthur's accusations.
In the advertisement (opens in a new tab), Arthur calls her daughter a liar and tells voters not to let her become governor. WOSU's interview reporting (opens in a new tab) records Acton's criticism and spokesperson Connie Luck's defense. WOSU reports that Ramaswamy confirmed on October 20 that his campaign created the video, which was posted on X on October 19 without the legally required disclaimer naming who paid for it.
Acton describes years of abuse and neglect during her childhood. WOSU reports that court records provided by Acton's campaign show her stepfather was charged with raping her when she was 12. A charge is not a conviction. The campaign's accusations against Acton remain its own allegations.
