Response to this claim
The Pentagon’s presentation of Jake and Logan Paul as speakers reflected unserious institutional judgment.
“Because this situation is so uniquely stupid. And I don’t know if I’m able to find the right words to say.”
DeFranco’s segment reviews the administration’s relationship with online influencers, recounts the Paul brothers’ Pentagon appearance and public reaction, and quotes the Defense Department’s defense of the visit. At 8:27–8:37 he gives his own judgment before transitioning into a satirical musical segment.
Archived copy (opens in a new tab)On the Pentagon’s decision to host and publicly showcase the brothers addressing service members, DeFranco gives an unmistakably negative evaluation by calling the situation “uniquely stupid.” This is substantive criticism of the conduct, not merely a challenge to how others characterized it.

Statement summary
Commentator Philip DeFranco rejected Attorney General Todd Blanche's description of Hegseth's performance as a "phenomenal job," citing the Iran war, a strike on a school, and a pattern of scandals as reasons Hegseth's record undercuts that defense.
“I think 'phenomenal job' is a very interesting review of a guy who, in addition to waging an incredibly unpopular war in Iran that has also taken part in bombing a school full of children, has managed to be involved in nonstop scandals since taking office.”
The Philip DeFranco Show episode covering both Kash Patel's September 15, 2026 Senate Judiciary Committee testimony on the FBI hiring-standards change and Thomas Massie's articles of impeachment against Pete Hegseth.
DeFranco directly disputes Attorney General Blanche's characterization of Hegseth's performance as a 'phenomenal job,' listing the Iran war, the school strike, and a pattern of scandals as reasons Hegseth's record does not support that defense, a substantive condemnation of Hegseth's record relevant to the impeachment question, aligning with the case's other condemns-classified statements.

Statement summary
Covering the controversy on his September 17 show, Philip DeFranco reported reactions from across the political spectrum and then answered three questions in his own voice, questions he attributed to other commentators. He agreed that Axios had taken the quote out of context, agreed that even in context the comment is out of touch with where most Americans stand, and agreed that it is an unnecessary distraction at best and actively damaging at worst to Democratic candidates 47 days from the midterms. He did not address whether the underlying comparison is accurate. Elsewhere in the segment he noted that the backlash had fallen on Axios as well as Piker.
“And others adding, was the quote taken out of context? Yes. Even with context, is this deeply out of touch with where most Americans stand? Yes. Is this an unnecessary distraction at best and actively damaging at worst [to] Democratic candidates' chances 47 days out from the midterms? Also, yes.”
Episode of The Philip DeFranco Show published September 17, 2026, running 32:49; the Piker segment begins at 9:34. Most of the segment is aggregation, summarising reactions from Republicans, Democrats and commentators without DeFranco stating a view. At 12:41 he recites three questions he attributes to other commentators and answers each in his own voice with "Yes," "Yes" and "Also, yes"; those answers are his. The segment plays a longer excerpt of Piker's Axios answer than the Axios article carries, including the Minab passage and "triple tapping it with Tomahawk missiles," and reads out Piker's follow-up posts. DeFranco notes the full interview was due to air the following day and reports that Piker told a reporter it was the most contentious interview he had been involved in. The quoted wording is our transcription of the episode audio.
DeFranco combines materially different positions on it. He sides with Piker against Axios on the framing, agreeing the quote was clipped out of context, while judging the remark itself out of touch with public opinion and damaging to the candidates Piker supports. The closest competing label is “Challenged the characterization”, on the strength of the out-of-context answer; it loses because he does not stop there but adds a substantive negative evaluation. condemns also loses, because he never rejects the comparison on the merits and expressly criticises how it was presented. Note that he assesses the remark's political standing and effect rather than its accuracy.
