At the September 9, 2026 Republican midterm convention, Democratic Senator John Fetterman introduced Republican Senator Dave McCormick by video and promised to cooperate with President Trump on Pennsylvania steel. Supporters welcomed cross-party cooperation; critics said the campaign-stage appearance helped an administration his voters expected him to oppose. Fetterman subsequently reaffirmed his Democratic identity.
