Response to this claim
The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform said in House Report 119-831 that Leon Black willfully failed to comply with its June 26, 2026 deposition subpoena and document subpoena, and that his stated reasons for not complying are without merit.
“Leon Black is knowingly defying a congressional subpoena. This is CONTEMPT of Congress. ... A billionaire cannot sue his way out of a subpoena. You’ve been served, sir. Show up or be held in contempt.”
Post by a member of the Oversight Committee on the day Black did not appear for his deposition.
Relative to the decision to hold Black in contempt, Luna says Black's non-appearance is contempt of Congress and that he should show up or be held in contempt. She supports the action itself before the committee or the House had voted, so the label is a defense rather than a challenge to how it is described.
