In an emailed statement on September 30, 2026, the UN Command said its joint investigation team identified an active DPRK anti-personnel mine on the ROK side of the Military Demarcation Line, and that based on the findings it determined an Armistice Agreement violation occurred and was addressing it through established Armistice mechanisms. The statement does not say which side committed the violation or that the two mines that exploded were North Korean. Asked why it had not named a responsible side, the command said the statement should be interpreted as written. Stars and Stripes reported that the finding applies only to the mine found on September 29.

Outlets read the statement differently: the Associated Press reported that the command said North Korea had violated the armistice agreement, while the Korea Herald headlined that the command stopped short of blaming Pyongyang.
