Overview

On the November 5, 2026 episode of their podcast I've Had It, Jennifer Welch read aloud a post saying "We're digging up Charlie Kirk and doing it again" and she and Angie Sullivan laughed. The hosts then said Kirk was shot by "a MAGA person". Critics condemned the exchange, and Cash App said it was no longer a sponsor of the show.

Read the full background

Charlie Kirk, a co-founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. Tyler Robinson is charged with aggravated murder. The criminal information filed against him attributes to his mother an account that over the year before the shooting he had become more political and had started to lean more to the left. It is a prosecution filing, not a verdict.

Jennifer Welch and Angie Sullivan host I've Had It, a progressive political podcast. Their November 5, 2026 episode, titled Drinking MAGA Tears, came two days after the midterm elections. Welch read aloud posts from X celebrating Democratic wins, then read one from an anonymous account: "We're digging up Charlie Kirk and doing it again." Both hosts lowered their heads and laughed for about 20 seconds. Sullivan then said Kirk was shot by somebody that was "super MAGA family" and Welch said he was shot by "a MAGA person".

Clips of the exchange spread on X that evening. Turning Point USA spokesperson Andrew Kolvet, commentator Benny Johnson, broadcaster Piers Morgan and journalist Glenn Greenwald condemned it. NewsNation host Chris Cuomo answered Johnson's post: "Whatever they are, you were just judged as worse...let that sink in." On November 6, Boll & Branch said it does not advertise with the podcast and will not in the future, and Cash App said it was no longer a sponsor.

As of November 7, the episode on the show's YouTube channel and in its podcast feed did not include the exchange, though the post about Kirk still appears in the list on screen. RadarOnline reported on November 6 that the exchange had been removed. We did not find a public response from Welch or Sullivan as of November 7, 2026.

Angie Sullivan and Jennifer Welch say Charlie Kirk was shot by a MAGA supporter from a MAGA family.

What is disputed

On the November 5, 2026 episode of I've Had It, Sullivan said Kirk was shot by somebody that was "super MAGA family" and Welch said he was shot by "a MAGA person". The criminal information filed against Tyler Robinson in September 2025 attributes to his mother an account that over the past year he had become more political and had started to lean more to the left, and says that he and his father have very different political views. Before this statement

Brian Atlas, an X user, tagged Cash App in a post saying it sponsored the episode in which the hosts mocked Kirk, and asked: "Does Cashapp support the mocking of a murder victim?"

"We do not condone violence of any kind, and we are no longer sponsors of this podcast."
    Condemned

Case context: Podcast hosts Jennifer Welch and Angie Sullivan laugh at a post about digging up Charlie Kirk; Cash App says it no longer sponsors the show

    Full statement and sources

Replying to an X user who asked whether the company supports the mocking of a murder victim, Cash App says it does not condone violence of any kind and is no longer a sponsor of the podcast. A Cash App spokesperson gave Headline USA the same statement.

    After the statement

Headline USA reported that evening that a Cash App spokesperson confirmed the end of the sponsorship in a statement to the outlet.

    Why this label?

The reference point is Jennifer Welch and Angie Sullivan's on-air laughter at a post about digging up Charlie Kirk and doing it again, and the remarks that followed, on the November 5, 2026 episode of I've Had It. Asked whether it supports the mocking of a murder victim, Cash App answers that it does not condone violence and that it no longer sponsors the show, which rejects the hosts' reaction and ends the company's tie to it.

This label describes the statement's response within the context above.

  2. Chris CuomoNewsNation host, in a post on X

    Before this statement

Johnson's November 5 post, which Cuomo quotes, calls Welch a left-wing witch and says of the hosts' laughter: "This is who they are." It adds: "They want you dead."

    Full statement and sources

Quoting Benny Johnson's post, which says the clip shows who the hosts' side is and that they want you dead, Cuomo replies that whatever they are, Johnson was just judged as worse, and tells him to go away. The post is addressed to Johnson and gives no view on the hosts' laughter.

The reference point is Jennifer Welch and Angie Sullivan's on-air laughter at a post about digging up Charlie Kirk and doing it again, and the remarks that followed, on the November 5, 2026 episode of I've Had It. Cuomo answers Johnson's description of the hosts and their side ("This is who they are") by telling Johnson "you were just judged as worse". He disputes Johnson's characterization and gives no view on the laughter itself, so the post does not defend or excuse the hosts.

  3. Glenn GreenwaldJournalist and host of System Update, in a post on X

    Before this statement

Greenwald quotes Andrew Kolvet's post, which carries the clip of Welch and Sullivan laughing at the post about digging up Kirk.

"Very few on the left will object to this even on just basic decency or humanity grounds -- even if it's just to say: mabye we shouldn't publicly cackle and celebrate when someone is fatally shot in the neck? -- because online group-think means they'll be castigated by their audience and other commentators and they don't have the courage to endure even that kind of trivial criticism."
