Overview

In 2021 Israel's Defense Ministry designated six Palestinian groups, including Addameer and the Union of Palestinian Women's Committees, as terrorist organizations, saying they were an arm of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). Israeli forces raided and closed their offices in August 2022, and the United States sanctioned Addameer on June 12, 2025. The Palestinian rights council says the women's committees closed their Ramallah offices in 2022, and Francis says the office raided on October 13 had been closed since then. The council says forces left a notice on the premises declaring Addameer an illegal entity. The IDF announcement also described a separate raid in recent weeks on an orphans' charity in Yatta that it says served Hamas. Al Jazeera, citing the Palestinian Ministry of Health, reports that a child was injured by live fire during the operation in Ramallah and El-Bireh.
