Trevor Potter
Role at the time: President of the Campaign Legal Center and former chairman of the Federal Election Commission, posting on his own Bluesky account; his organisation is a party to the litigation
Statement summary
Trevor Potter, president of the Campaign Legal Center and a former Republican chairman of the Federal Election Commission, welcomed the Supreme Court's decision on the mail voting executive order, saying it prevented the Postal Service from sowing chaos in the elections. His organisation is a party to the litigation and had obtained earlier blocks on the order in the district courts; he had also joined an amicus brief for more than 50 former state and federal judges urging the Supreme Court to uphold the lower court ruling.
“Tonight's Supreme Court decision prevents the U.S. Postal Service from sowing chaos in our elections”
The speaker's own post on Bluesky. It opens a numbered thread, so the excerpt is the opening statement rather than his complete argument. Potter's organisation, the Campaign Legal Center, is a party to the litigation; his earlier posts record a preliminary injunction on September 4, a further district court block on September 14, and an amicus brief filed in August on behalf of more than 50 former state and federal judges.

Potter rejects their application, describing the order elsewhere as illegal and unconstitutional and welcoming the decision that stops the Postal Service implementing it. The closest competing label is “Challenged the characterization”, because his objection is framed in legal terms about the executive's authority rather than about the policy's merits. That loses because he is not disputing how the order has been described; he is opposing its operation and litigating to prevent it.
