Role at the time: U.S. senator from Pennsylvania (Democrat), interviewed on Fox News's Hannity
Response to this claim
El-Sayed supports Sharia law and treats opposition to it as white supremacy.
“he absolutely supports Sharia law. I mean, he's absolutely pro-Iran and Hamas.”
RealClearPolitics transcript, syndicated on Yahoo News, of Sen. John Fetterman's appearance on the Tuesday, September 1, 2026 edition of Fox News's "Hannity." Hannity.com posted the segment on September 2. The wording was checked against audio of the segment.
The reference point is El-Sayed's position on Sharia law, which he describes as religious freedom and opposition to bans that single out Muslims, and which JD Vance characterized as support for Sharia. Fetterman adopts Vance's characterization and uses it as a reason to oppose El-Sayed, so we labeled it Condemned, consistent with Vance and Ted Cruz in this case. Challenged the characterization loses because Fetterman does not dispute anyone's description of El-Sayed's view; he asserts the critical one. Evidence level: a RealClearPolitics transcript, checked against audio of the segment.

“On the Concurrent Resolution H.Con.Res. 89: A concurrent resolution directing the President, pursuant to section 5(c) of the War Powers Resolution, to remove United States Armed Forces from hostilities with Iran.”

Rejected 49-50 on September 24, 2026. Fetterman was the only Democratic nay; Republicans Collins, Murkowski, Paul and Tillis voted yea; Alsobrooks did not vote.
Archived copy (opens in a new tab)Voted against directing the removal of U.S. forces from unauthorized hostilities with Iran, a vote to let U.S. involvement continue without congressional authorization.
Role at the time: U.S. Senator (D-PA)
Statement summary
Fetterman denied he would switch parties, calling it a lie if he did.
“I'm not going to be a Republican! ... If I turn a Republican, then I'll be a liar.”
Fetterman's on-record remarks to reporters denying he will switch parties.
Fetterman directly denies party-switch speculation and reaffirms his Democratic identity, continuing to defend his convention appearance as compatible with remaining a Democrat, consistent with his earlier statement in this case.
Role at the time: Democratic U.S. senator addressing the Republican convention by recorded video
Response to this claim
Introducing McCormick at the Republican convention was consistent with Fetterman's stated aim of cross-party cooperation for Pennsylvania's steel industry.
“we’ll work with President Trump to fight and defend the steel way of life”
C-SPAN video presentation dated September 9. The short item contains Fetterman's prerecorded convention address; the page links the full convention. Supplemental transcripts and subsequent reactions are recorded separately. His original stated rationale must not be described as a later response to criticism.
Role at the time: United States senator from Pennsylvania, interviewed on Fox News's "America's Newsroom"
Statement summary
On Fox News's "America's Newsroom" on September 2, Sen. John Fetterman offered Abdul El-Sayed $50,000 to hold a rally with Hasan Piker on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks and explain why America deserved them, echoing Piker's 2019 remark. The Washington Examiner reported the total offer reached $100,000, with a second $50,000 tied to El-Sayed appearing with his half-sister, though that portion is reported rather than quoted. Fetterman is among the few Democrats to attack El-Sayed publicly over the association. The framing that El-Sayed would have to explain why America deserved the attacks is Fetterman's rhetorical device, not a position El-Sayed has stated.
“I'm offering $50,000 for you to do a rally with Hasan Piker on 9/11, the anniversary, and you can all explain to people why America deserved that 25 years ago.”
Role at the time: U.S. Senator, Pennsylvania
Statement summary
John Fetterman voted Nay on H.Con.Res. 86, the Senate resolution directing the President to remove U.S. Armed Forces from hostilities with Iran.
“On the Concurrent Resolution H.Con.Res. 86: Directing the President, pursuant to section 5(c) of the War Powers Resolution, to remove United States Armed Forces from hostilities with Iran.”
Official Senate roll call on H.Con.Res. 86, directing the President under section 5(c) of the War Powers Resolution to remove U.S. Armed Forces from hostilities with Iran. Agreed to 50-48 on June 23, 2026 — the first Iran war powers resolution to pass both chambers. Republicans Cassidy, Collins, Murkowski and Paul voted yea; Fetterman was the only Democratic nay.
Role at the time: U.S. Senator for Pennsylvania at the statement date.
Statement summary
Fetterman supports Operation Epic Fury as right and necessary to produce regional peace.
“President Trump has been willing to do what’s right and necessary to produce real peace in the region.”
His original written post opens by naming Operation Epic Fury. He blesses the United States, its military and Israel.

Role at the time: Democratic U.S. senator issuing a later statement
Response to this claim
Fetterman said the convention appearance did not change his Democratic identity.
“We are in different parties, but we are both Team PA”
A genuine later statement responding to the backlash, reported at 9:42 p.m. EDT. Fetterman's pledge about his future Senate vote is his commitment, not an established future outcome.
An actual post-backlash rebuttal to interpretations that the appearance meant abandonment of his party.
Records his rationale within the disputed act, not a later answer to critics.
Washington Examiner report of September 2, 2026, 1:08 PM ET, on remarks Sen. John Fetterman made that day on Fox News's "America's Newsroom." The report and its headline describe a total offer of up to $100,000, with a second $50,000 tied to El-Sayed appearing with his half-sister, but the only passage quoted directly is the first offer, which is what is quoted here. The remarks predate both the September 11 anniversary and Piker's September 17 Axios interview, so they respond to the El-Sayed–Piker association and Piker's earlier "America deserved 9/11" remark rather than to the al-Qaeda comparison.
Archived copy (opens in a new tab)Fetterman answers that question in the affirmative: his dare treats El-Sayed as answerable for Piker's view, inviting him to explain it alongside him. That places him with Alyssa Brouillet (433), labeled "Defended or excused" for supplying the campaign's rationale for the accusation.
A nay vote opposed the resolution directing the removal of U.S. Armed Forces from hostilities with Iran, allowing U.S. military operations in the war to continue.
Relative to U.S. military involvement in the 2026 Iran war, Fetterman supports Operation Epic Fury as right and necessary to produce regional peace.
