Jasmine Crockett

Role at the time: U.S. Representative for Texas's 30th congressional district, on her official X account

September 21, 2026Condemned

Statement summary

On X, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) linked the shooting of Garces Perez to the July fatal ICE shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, called ICE a "rogue agency" that "continues to show no regard for human life," and said "we will not look the other way" and "we deserve a full, independent, and transparent investigation."

“Just two months after ICE murdered Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, these unqualified ICE agents shot another man in Texas. This rogue agency continues to show no regard for human life, shooting people in the middle of the street and getting away with it. We will not look the other way. We deserve a full, independent, and transparent investigation.”

Why we used this label

Relative to DHS's decision to have its own component lead the investigation into the shooting, Crockett directly denounces ICE as a "rogue agency" showing "no regard for human life" and rejects an ICE-led inquiry by demanding an independent one. Closest competing label: “Challenged the characterization” loses because she condemns ICE's conduct broadly, not merely a description of this incident.

“Action: Signed the July 31, 2025 congressional letter challenging DOJ's expanded denaturalization priorities. Signature appears on page 4.”

Read the original textCongressional letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi on DOJ's denaturalization priorities · Pramila JayapalPages 1-3: criticism of the directive; pages 4-6: 32 signers

The signers criticize the scope of DOJ's June directive and request enforcement counts and safeguards. They accept rigorous denaturalization proceedings against former Nazis who concealed their crimes. Their warnings about political targeting are allegations and concerns, not court findings.

Why we used this label

Signing the letter expresses criticism of the expanded campaign under scrutiny. Acceptance of rigorous revocation proceedings in grave fraud cases does not make the letter's criticism of this directive conditional.
