Elizabeth Warren on Energy Policy

The case asks whether Google should pay the full cost of the shared grid upgrades its data centers trigger, rather than leaving part of that cost with other customers. The October 2026 report by Warren, Richard Blumenthal and Chris Van Hollen says the companies, Google among them, commit to paying for infrastructure that serves only their facilities but "dispute how much they should pay for shared infrastructure", and that they opposed standards requiring them to pay the full cost of upgrades their facilities trigger. That argues the companies leave part of the cost of shared upgrades with other customers, so we labeled it Condemned. The closest competing label is Challenged the characterization, since the report disputes how the companies describe their commitments; it loses because the report goes beyond disputing that description and argues that the companies are not paying their fair share of the shared costs.
