Responding on MS NOW to Vance's convention remark, Princeton professor Eddie Glaude said Vance objected to being called racist rather than to being racist, and that the sentence trafficked in stereotypes. He linked it to Vance's July 2025 argument that America is more than a creedal nation, which Glaude said invoked the language of blood and soil, and argued the rhetoric casts immigrants as an infestation that sullies the body politic and frames the government's task as cleansing it.
Why we used this label
Glaude rejects the statement and identifies it as racist in substance rather than merely careless. The closest competing label is “Challenged the characterization”, because much of his answer analyses what the words imply rather than denouncing them outright. That loses because the opening line is a direct evaluation of the speaker's conduct, not a dispute about how it has been described.
