“Trump is doing a deal with the devil to try to help his flailing political fortunes from the shockingly high diesel prices caused by his own reckless, illegal war in the Middle East.”

Chuck Schumer's own post on his official account.

Why we used this label

The case asks whether the U.S. should ease sanctions on Russian diesel to lower fuel prices, as the administration did on October 9. Schumer calls the arrangement "a deal with the devil" and says it "will only aid and abet" Putin. That opposes the easing, so we labeled it Condemned. The closest competing label is Mixed or conditional; it loses because the post contains no support for the arrangement.

Statement summary

Chuck Schumer says Democrats don't vote for frauds, calls the bill voluntary for companies, and says Democrats want its requirements to be mandatory.

“Because we don't vote for frauds. It's voluntary. Not a single company has to comply with it. If they wanted to do something real, if you still wanted to do something real instead of faking the people out, he would take one of the Democratic bills by Van Hollen and by Martin Heinrich and so many others that is real and has teeth. They want it optional, which means zero. We want it mandatory.”
