Rep. Roy's post on X, which quotes another user's post about Rep. Casar's remarks. The post calls the Venezuelan man “the shooter”; his own attribution is “We were told.”

Why we used this label

Relative to DHS's public account of the shooting, Roy repeats DHS's description of the man's status as the account he was given and frames the episode as part of a wider conflict over immigration; he does not question it or call for an independent investigation. Borderline: the post is attributed (“We were told”), quotes another user's post about Rep. Casar, and calls the Venezuelan man “the shooter”. Closest competing label: “Challenged the characterization” loses because he adopts, rather than disputes, DHS's description.

Why we used this label

The reference is nationwide NFA non-enforcement. Signing a letter expressly requesting that policy supports it, even though the letter predates ATF's October announcement.
