Where this statement fits
JD Vance questions James Talarico's internet search history; Jake Tapper says Vance twisted Talarico's words
At the Republican National Committee's midterm convention in Dallas on September 10, 2026, and at a rally in Tyler, Texas, on October 13, Vice President JD Vance suggested that the internet search history of James Talarico, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Texas, would be disturbing, pointing to Talarico's comments about transgender children. Asked about it by reporters on October 13, Vance said people who say what Talarico has said "tend to have some pretty unusual search histories," and added that he was "just guessing." At the Tyler rally he also told a supporter he loved him "in a totally platonic way," adding, "I'm the vice president, not James Talarico." CNN's Jake Tapper said Vance had twisted a Talarico statement expressing compassion for trans kids, and MS NOW's Joe Scarborough called the remark disgusting.
