Marco Rubio says there is "no role for us to play" in the Tate brothers' cases
Marco RubioU.S. secretary of state, answering a reporter's question in the Philippines
Asked about the Tate brothers' arrests, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the cases were going through the courts, that there was no role for the administration to play at this moment or maybe ever, and that he would not give an opinion.
“These cases have a process that they go through in the courts. My understanding is that they're involved in that judicial process, and so that'll play itself out at this point. And there's no role for us to play at this moment, or maybe ever in that regard, but I'm not going to opine on that”

Raskin and Ansari ask Blanche and Rubio about the administration's role in the Tate brothers' cases; Rubio said in July it had no role
Reps. Jamie Raskin and Yassamin Ansari asked Attorney General Todd Blanche and Secretary of State Marco Rubio on October 20, 2026 to disclose any administration involvement in the criminal cases against Andrew and Tristan Tate and to say whether it will honor the United Kingdom's extradition requests. In July, after the brothers were arrested in Miami, Rubio said there was no role for the administration to play, and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt answered no when asked whether it planned to intervene.

How this statement is classified
The label describes this statement's response within the context above.
Why this label?
The reference point is the Trump administration's reported actions on the Tate brothers' behalf and whether it will intervene in their criminal cases, including the British extradition requests. Rubio points to the court process, says the administration has no role to play at this moment, and declines to give an opinion, so he stays out of the question rather than defending or criticizing any involvement.

Raskin and Ansari's letter says they doubt the administration will sit on the sidelines in the Tate brothers' cases
“given the Trump Administration's reported willingness to intervene both internationally and domestically on the Tate brothers' behalf as they face serious criminal charges involving violent crimes and given the failure of any official to provide substantive responses to Ranking Member Raskin's previous correspondence, we remain skeptical that the Administration will sit on the sidelines rather than jump into the game to help the Tates”Read statement
