Chris Harden calls the Iran war unconstitutional and says he would vote in Congress to end the hostilities

Chris HardenDemocratic candidate for U.S. House in Georgia's 11th district, in a statement emailed by his campaign

Chris Harden, the Democratic candidate for U.S. House in Georgia's 11th district, said in a statement emailed by his campaign that Congress never declared war on Iran and that the war is unconstitutional. He said that in Congress he would vote to end the hostilities and restore the war powers the founders gave to Congress.

“The Constitution is clear: only Congress has the power to declare war. Congress never declared war on Iran. Yet American service members have been in harm's way for months, and taxpayers are footing a bill in the tens of billions. This war is unconstitutional. In Congress, I will vote to end the hostilities in Iran and restore the role the founders gave to the people's representatives. Our troops and their families deserve leaders who follow the Constitution, not ones who look the other way.”

How this statement is classified

Condemned

The label describes this statement's response within the context above.

Why this label?

The case tracks support for continued U.S. military operations against Iran, which Congress has not formally authorized, including whether a candidate would vote for a war powers resolution to remove U.S. forces from hostilities. Harden calls the war unconstitutional and says he would vote to end the hostilities in Iran. That rejects the continued operations, so we labeled it Condemned.

Tyler Macallister supports stopping Iranian attacks on Americans but opposes boots on the ground for now

Tyler Macallister

“I support an effort to stop attacks on Americans by Iran and its’ proxies, restore peace in the Middle East and the restoration of prosperity to Iranian people. How we get there is the something that must be addressed. I am not in favor of boots on the ground at this time, but to make a final judgement without understanding capabilities, ally support and course of action would be premature.”
