National ReviewConservative magazine, in an unsigned editorial by its editors
In an unsigned editorial, National Review's editors ridiculed Weaver's posts on homeownership and the white middle class, called her views racist and argued that her approach to housing would not work.
Responding to
On November 19, 2018, Cea Weaver posted: “Impoverish the white middle class. Homeownership is racist / failed public policy.”
“She considers that “private property is a weapon of white supremacy,” she believes that “homeownership is racist,” and she holds that the highest aim of government ought to be to “impoverish the *white* middle class.” And they say that ambition is dead in America!”

Where this statement fits
Cea Weaver’s “impoverish the white middle class” and homeownership remarks
A deleted November 2018 post attributed to New York City tenant official Cea Weaver said, “Impoverish the white middle class. Homeownership is racist / failed public policy.” The wording resurfaced after Mayor Zohran Mamdani appointed Weaver to lead the Mayor’s Office to Protect Tenants. Critics called the language racist, extreme, or disqualifying; defenders emphasized Weaver’s tenant-advocacy record and argued that the backlash served real-estate interests. Weaver expressed regret for some old wording without specifically retracting this sentence.

The editorial, titled "Mamdani's Commie Housing Official Is a Lunatic," opened by arguing that Mayor Mamdani's critics are right to call him a communist and that Weaver was evidence of it.
After the quotation
The editors went on to quote Weaver's other posts about white people and wealth and wrote that she was "unwilling to limit her racism to the temporal realm," before arguing that her rent policies were designed to let the city take buildings from landlords.
