Vote Run Lead Action founder Erin Vilardi says the attacks on Black women in public life form a pattern

Erin VilardiFounder and CEO of Vote Run Lead Action, in a joint statement of women-led organizations published by Higher Heights for America

Vote Run Lead Action founder and CEO Erin Vilardi said "we denounce these attacks without reservation" and described the repeated attacks on Black women in public life as a pattern rooted in structural racism and misogyny.

“From Florida U.S. Senate nominee Angie Nixon to U.S. Representatives Ayanna Pressley and Ilhan Omar, former Congresswoman Cori Bush, and Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. Different offices, different states, the same attacks. We denounce these attacks without reservation, and we refuse to treat them as isolated incidents. When the same attacks are repeatedly directed at Black women in public life, that is a pattern rooted in structural racism and misogyny.”

Where this statement fits

Laura Loomer’s remarks about Angie Nixon and other Black women in politics

Laura Loomer described Florida Democratic Senate nominee Angie Nixon and four other prominent Black women using the word “ghetto” and a gendered slur, said the stereotype exists, and later defended the wording as an accurate description of Nixon’s conduct, race, and ideology. Nixon and political figures and commentators across party lines called the remarks racist, sexist, degrading, offensive, or vile. The dispute concerns whether Loomer’s stated political criticism can be separated from the racial and gender stereotypes used in the original and follow-up statements.
