Rick Larsen (D-WA), the ranking member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, said the Trump Administration’s “transparent blackmail attempt and bogus claims of impending bankruptcy do not fool anyone.” He said the focus should be on repairing and restoring the Center.

Joyce Beatty's lawyers wrote that Trump said "if he is not recognized on the building, it will close and be ripped down." The dispute is over whether the renovation should depend on recognition for Trump's administration and what his remarks mean.
