ABC News (opens in a new tab) reported ICE's broader formulation that the vehicle attempted to flee and that the officer fired because he feared for public safety. The same report quoted Sen. Angus King saying Guerrero was not the operation's target and said the agents did not have activated body cameras.
A Portland Press Herald compilation of nearby security footage (opens in a new tab) captures gunshots and portions of the approach and aftermath. Its limited angles and motion-triggered gaps do not continuously show the car's movement at the instant the officer fired. The footage therefore supplies important timing and scene context without resolving whether the officer faced an imminent threat.
Nearby resident Daniel Boucher told Maine Public (opens in a new tab) that after hearing the shots he heard Guerrero say, “I tried to stop,” and heard the officer say Guerrero had tried to hit him. Boucher did not witness the firing itself.
