Response to this claim
Learning Resources, Inc. and six other companies said in their August 24, 2026 motion that USTR's determinations are "pretextual and preordained" and that the administration has now tried to re-create "materially the same global tariff regime under three disparate statutes."
“This is a blatant attempt to revive Trump's illegal global tariffs under a different name. These latest tariffs will continue to keep inflation and prices high for Americans, and do nothing to help workers around the world”
A statement from Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden after the administration announced the Section 301 tariffs. He urges Congress to pass the bill he introduced that week to rein in presidential tariff authority.
Relative to the Section 301 forced-labor tariffs, Wyden says they revive tariffs he calls illegal under a new name and do nothing for workers, an express rejection of both the tariffs and their stated rationale. The closest competing label is Challenged the characterization, because he disputes the forced-labor framing, but he also condemns the tariffs themselves.

Statement summary
Senator Ron Wyden said the shooting showed that the deployment of federal agents in Portland was inflaming violence and called for it to end.
“I'm monitoring the first awful reports of two people shot in Portland by federal law enforcement. I'll keep you updated, but Trump's deployment of federal agents in my hometown is clearly inflaming violence -- and must end.”
Senator Ron Wyden's own post reacting to the shooting on the day it occurred, characterizing federal agent deployment in Portland as inflaming violence.

Role at the time: U.S. Senator, in a post on X
Statement summary
In a post on X on September 17, 2026 that quoted an Associated Press post reporting the House action, Sen. Ron Wyden wrote "No surprise Black is doing everything in his power to dodge questions from Congress".
“No surprise Black is doing everything in his power to dodge questions from Congress.”
Post by a U.S. senator that quotes an Associated Press post reporting that the House held Black in contempt of Congress for defying subpoenas in the Epstein investigation.
Relative to the decision to hold Black in contempt, Wyden answers a report of the House action by saying Black is doing everything in his power to dodge questions from Congress. He does not say in so many words that the vote was warranted, but the post frames Black's conduct as unsurprising grounds for it, so the label is a defense rather than a challenge to the action.
