Role at the time: U.S. representative for Colorado's 4th district, in a press release from her congressional office
Statement summary
In a revised press release from her congressional office, Rep. Lauren Boebert said she rejects the allegations as "utterly false" and that she has "never had a sexual relationship or an inappropriate romantic relationship with any member of my staff." The release also says Wheeler "also likely committed perjury and broke a federal law" when he certified his filing under penalty of perjury, and that the filing should not be treated as an investigation under House Ethics Committee Rule 15.
“I reject these baseless allegations as utterly false and there is no truth to them whatsoever. I have never had a sexual relationship or an inappropriate romantic relationship with any member of my staff—past or present. ... David Wheeler also likely committed perjury and broke a federal law when he certified under penalty of perjury that his lies were the truth and acknowledged that "knowingly making false statements to the Committee may violate federal law, including 18 U.S.C. § 1001."”
The congressional office's revised release. The page keeps the original publication time of 8:49 p.m. EDT on September 20, 2026 and shows a last-modified time of 6:52 p.m. EDT on September 22. It replaces the September 20 version, which attributed its statement to a spokesperson and does not contain the sentence about perjury; that version is saved as an archive copy of its old address, which now redirects here. The revised release is issued in Boebert's name and quotes her directly.
Archived copy (opens in a new tab)The case concerns alleged prohibited staff relationships and misuse of official or campaign funds. Boebert says the allegations are utterly false and that she has never had a sexual or inappropriate romantic relationship with staff, so we labeled it Denied. The closest competing label is Challenged the characterization, because the release also calls the filing a politically motivated stunt; it does not fit because Boebert directly says the allegations are untrue. The release also accuses Wheeler of perjury over his filing. That accusation is about the filing and does not change the label.
Role at the time: United States representative for Colorado’s 4th congressional district
Statement summary
Boebert called the complaint a “salacious BS attack,” said no House member had certified it for review, and argued the House Ethics Committee could not accept it within 60 days of an election. She described the coverage as a smear and rejected the allegations.
“You all ran a smear and called it news.”
Boebert's X post attaches a video responding to coverage of a complaint filed with the House Ethics Committee. The direct post is the primary record; Mediaite independently reports and quotes the video's substantive statements. The complaint's allegations remain disputed.

Response to this claim
Rep. Lauren Boebert engaged in sexual relationships with three House employees she supervised.
“I have never, ever been in any inappropriate relationship, nor have I ever been sexually involved with any staff”
Juliegrace Brufke's original report attributes a direct denial of inappropriate or sexual relationships with staff to Rep. Lauren Boebert. The quoted denial concerns the alleged relationships.
Boebert characterized the complaint as false and the coverage as a smear, rejecting the allegations rather than addressing each allegation individually in the excerpted statement.
An unnamed representative speaking for Boebert calls the complaint’s allegations utterly false and says there is no truth to them. This is an explicit denial of the complaint’s allegations, not merely a dispute over wording.
Boebert says she has never had an inappropriate or sexual relationship with staff, explicitly denying the alleged staff relationships. She does not address the separate payment allegation in this statement.
