Response to this claim
Vice President JD Vance said he would not call the U.S. fight with Iran a war, saying there is no active shooting right now and that major combat operations lasted about six weeks.
“Vice President Vance won’t call Trump’s war in Iran a war. How embarrassing it is that he has to lie to please the President, but the American people aren’t fooled.”
Clyburn's reel on his Instagram account, @repjamesclyburn. The same text appears as the caption of a reel on his Facebook page.
The reference point is Vance's statement that he would not call the fighting a war. Clyburn calls it "Trump's war" and says Vance "has to lie to please the President". He denounces the statement rather than only offering a different label, so condemns fits better than challenges the characterization.
Role at the time: U.S. Representative for South Carolina at the statement date.
