Ms. Rachel matches Macklemore's $1M donation and challenges "every wealthy white celebrity" to follow

Ms. RachelChildren's educator and video creator, in a public statement reported by Variety

After Macklemore pledged $1 million in tour earnings to six organizations supporting Palestinians and invited others to join, Ms. Rachel said she would match the donation and challenged every wealthy white celebrity to do the same and to speak out against what she called the genocide in Gaza. She said more than 20,000 Palestinian children had been killed and that those with privilege and platforms have a moral obligation to protect children and human rights. On her own account she confirmed she is a Palestine Children's Relief Fund ambassador and would donate to it and other organizations. Her casualty figure and her characterisation of events in Gaza are her own and are not established here.

“I will match Macklemore's donation and I invite every wealthy white celebrity to match it and speak out against the genocide in Gaza. Over 20,000 precious Palestinian children have been killed and children continue to be killed every day. We have a moral obligation to use our privilege and platforms to protect children and human rights.”

Where this statement fits

Macklemore’s “Free Palestine” speech and removal from Ed Sheeran’s U.S. tour

At two Ed Sheeran concerts at MetLife Stadium, Macklemore called for a free Palestine, accused Israel of apartheid and genocide, and said criticism of Israel was not criticism of Jewish people. After venue objections, tour promoter Messina Touring Group said he would not perform the remaining U.S. Loop Tour dates. Critics characterized the performance as hostile or inappropriate; Macklemore defended it as a call for equal treatment.

Ms. Rachel says she will donate to PCRF and other organizations (opens in a new tab)

About this source

First-party post from Ms. Rachel's verified Threads account, posted on September 17, 2026, the day after Macklemore named six organizations receiving his $1 million pledge and invited others to join. A companion post on the same account that day reads: "So it's not political to say children shouldn't be killed if they are white but if they are brown or black it is? That's racism." A longer statement circulating on social media, in which she is quoted saying she will match Macklemore's donation and inviting "every wealthy white celebrity" to do the same, could not be located on her own Threads account and is not reproduced here; aggregator sites reported the match, but we found no reliable outlet confirming it, and Variety's September 16 round-up of her remarks makes no mention of a donation.

About this source

Post from Variety's verified Threads account on September 17, 2026 reporting that Ms. Rachel is matching Macklemore's $1 million donation and quoting her statement in full. Variety's rendering matches, word for word, a quotation that had circulated earlier the same day via a third-party account; that earlier relay could not be verified against Ms. Rachel's own Threads feed, where only shorter posts about donating to PCRF were visible, so the statement is recorded here on Variety's attribution. Ms. Rachel's figure of more than 20,000 Palestinian children killed and her characterisation of events in Gaza as genocide are hers and are not established here.

Before the quotation

On September 16 Macklemore named six organizations receiving his $1 million pledge, described as his entire net earnings from the Loop Tour, and invited others to join. The Palestine Children's Relief Fund, one of the six, publicly confirmed receipt. Ms. Rachel had criticised Ed Sheeran on September 14 over Macklemore's removal, recorded separately.

After the quotation

Ms. Rachel posted on her own Threads account that she is a PCRF ambassador and will be donating to it and other organizations, and separately that treating the killing of children as political depending on their race is racism. The full statement quoted here circulated earlier the same day via a third-party account that could not be verified against her own feed; it is recorded on Variety's attribution.

How this statement is classified

Defended or excused

The label describes this statement's response within the context above.

Why this label?

Ms. Rachel answers his invitation by matching his donation and urging other public figures to join him and speak out, which endorses both the advocacy that led to his removal and his response to it. That places her with the performers and public figures who defended the speech, and is consistent with her earlier record in this case criticising Sheeran for dropping him (568). The closest competing label is “Mixed or conditional”; it loses because she attaches no condition and takes no position against any part of the conduct under scrutiny.
