Where this statement fits

DHS adds BGI Genomics and MGI to UFLPA list; companies reject forced-labor allegations

A Federal Register notice published October 29, 2026, lists BGI Genomics, MGI Tech and Shenzhen BGI Technology, known as BGI Group. Both responding companies identify DHS's addition as October 28. The notice says the government has reasonable cause to believe BGI Genomics conducts genetic testing in Xinjiang alongside the regional government and MGI has provided genetic-testing capacity to that government. It says this testing facilitates the recruitment, transport or transfer of forced labor or persecuted groups out of Xinjiang. It also lists BGI Genomics and BGI Group under a separate criterion for entities sourcing material from Xinjiang. The notice says BGI Genomics tests plant, animal and bacterial-disease material sourced there, while BGI Group tests human genetic material sourced there and plans to test plant and animal material. BGI Genomics denies engaging in forced labor. MGI rejects the allegations and says it will assess legal remedies and seek removal. The companies issued separate statements; their denials do not resolve the government's assertions.
