Penny Nance says Concerned Women for America backs Hawley's effort to end the use of mifepristone
Penny NanceCEO and president of Concerned Women for America and president of its Legislative Action Committee, in a statement of support released through Senator Hawley's office
Penny Nance, CEO and president of Concerned Women for America, said in a statement of support released through Senator Hawley's office that claims chemical abortion drugs are as safe as Tylenol are not true. She said Concerned Women for America is grateful for Hawley's efforts to end the use of the drug.
“Claims that chemical abortion drugs are just as safe as Tylenol are simply not true. The FDA's own black box label on Mifepristone warns that one in 25 women will end up in the emergency room. This extremely dangerous drug has often been administered without medical oversight and has been used to coerce women into believing that abortion is as safe and easy as just popping a pill. Instead, women are left struggling to recover from the physical effects of Mifepristone on top of the psychological trauma of ending the life of their baby. Concerned Women for America is grateful for Sen. Hawley's efforts to end the use of Mifepristone for both destroying the lives of innocent babies and irreversibly harming their mothers”

Where this statement fits
Should Congress ban the abortion pill, mifepristone, as Josh Hawley has proposed?
On March 11, 2026, Senator Josh Hawley introduced the Safeguarding Women from Chemical Abortion Act, which would withdraw the Food and Drug Administration's approval of mifepristone for pregnancy termination, make distributing and labeling the drug for that purpose violations of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, and let women who say chemical abortion harmed them sue its manufacturers. Mifepristone has been approved in the United States since 2000 and is used in a large majority of American abortions. Hawley argues a national ban is the only remedy because the drug can be mailed into states whose own laws restrict abortion. The bill drew seven Republican cosponsors but has not moved out of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. On September 16, 2026, Hawley unveiled a four-page "Declaration for Life" and began asking officeholders and candidates to sign it as a commitment to ban the drug. The dispute is over whether Congress should enact that ban.

How this statement is classified
The label describes this statement's response within the context above.
Why this label?
The reference point is Hawley's proposal that Congress ban mifepristone by withdrawing its federal approval. Nance said Concerned Women for America is grateful for Hawley's efforts to end the use of mifepristone and called the drug extremely dangerous. That is direct support for ending the drug's use through the bill, so we labeled it Defended or excused.
