On February 28, 2026, the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran. Shaheen, retiring at the end of her term, issued this statement as the top Democrat on Senate Foreign Relations.

Shaheen voted yea on H.Con.Res. 86 on June 23. In a July 9 NPR interview she said 'this is a war that he never should have undertaken... this is a war that needs to end.' Her seat is contested by Rep. Chris Pappas.
