Overview
Azalea and the sheriff's office offer conflicting accounts of physical contact during her removal. The office alleges that she struck a deputy. Azalea denies doing so and criticizes the force used. Video of the removal obtained by The Salt Lake Tribune shows her being led out and hitting the floor, and the Tribune does not report that it shows a strike. She was booked into the county jail on misdemeanor counts of disrupting a meeting, interfering with an officer and assaulting an officer, the Tribune reported, citing the sheriff's office. We could not review body-camera footage or court charging documents. The planning commission recommended data-center rules rather than finally enacting them.

During that process, one individual allegedly assaulted a deputy. Violence against law enforcement officers is unacceptable, and our deputies deserve to perform their duties without being subjected to physical assault. The circumstances will be addressed through the appropriate legal process.
