Defended or excused
Response to this claim
The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform said in House Report 119-831 that Leon Black willfully failed to comply with its June 26, 2026 deposition subpoena and document subpoena, and that his stated reasons for not complying are without merit.
“Leon Black didn’t show up for his Oversight deposition today — defying another congressional subpoena. ... Nobody is above the law. ... We’ve had enough with the games. Oversight Democrats are demanding he be held in contempt.”

Post by a member of the Oversight Committee on the day Black did not appear for his deposition.
Why we used this label
Relative to the decision to hold Black in contempt, Crockett says Oversight Democrats are demanding contempt and that nobody is above the law. That supports the action itself before the committee or the House had acted.
