An employee of the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Institute has been diagnosed with pneumonia of unknown etiology, expanded testing of her material found no microorganisms connected to her professional activity, and a biosafety commission found no emergency situations in work with pathogenic microorganisms at the institute, Rospotrebnadzor said on October 4, 2026.

“Под строгим контролем Роспотребнадзора в регионе проводятся профилактические мероприятия в связи со случаем заболевания сотрудницы Иркутского противочумного института Сибири и Дальнего Востока пневмонией неустановленной этиологии. В материале от больной не выявлены микроорганизмы, связанные с ее профессиональной деятельностью. Среди сотрудников института за прошедшие 10 дней обращений по поводу инфекционных заболеваний не зарегистрировано. Все контактные лица с заболевшей установлены, обследованы и находятся под медицинским наблюдением с ежедневными лабораторными исследованиями.”

The governor's weekly digest on his official Telegram channel. Its third item repeats the diagnosis and the finding on microorganisms from Rospotrebnadzor's statement of the same day and adds that no visits for infectious diseases were registered among institute staff in the past 10 days and that all contacts have been identified, examined and placed under observation with daily laboratory tests. The item mentions neither plague nor a death.
