Statement summary
Quote-posting Benny Johnson’s post of DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin’s claim that Rep. Ilhan Omar married her brother, Rep. Delia Ramirez wrote that Mullin “is another tool and loyalist” who is “using his position as Secretary to spread lies, conspiracy theories, and enact Trump’s political vengeance.” In her own words she did not mention Omar or the marriage claim.
“I said it from the beginning: Markwayne is another tool and loyalist.” … “Like his predecessor, he is using his position as Secretary to spread lies, conspiracy theories, and enact Trump’s political vengeance.”
Rep. Delia Ramirez’s own post, published at 6:33 p.m. EDT on September 11, 2026, quote-posting Benny Johnson’s post of Mullin’s remarks.
By quote-posting Mullin’s claim and saying he is using his position to “spread lies, conspiracy theories, and enact Trump’s political vengeance,” Ramirez denounces the official making the accusation and characterizes his statements as falsehood and retaliation; she does not separately address the marriage allegation. The closest competing label is “Challenged the characterization”, because she calls his statements false; it loses because she also denounces Mullin’s motive and conduct in office.
Role at the time: U.S. representative from Illinois
