Amy V. Doukoure
Role at the time: Lead staff attorney for the Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations
Statement summary
CAIR-MI attorney Amy V. Doukoure said that linking El-Sayed to bad actors, even through a false tie, stigmatizes him and the Muslim community.
“Just by tying him, even if it’s a false tie, to bad actors or whatnot, they are able to stigmatize him, because that is how they’ve been stigmatizing our community for decades.”
Bridge Detroit reported on recurring allegations linking El-Sayed to the Muslim Brotherhood before Rogers’s September 10 campaign-finance statement. The article contains direct quotations from El-Sayed and Doukoure that characterize the broader pattern of attacks; neither quote directly addresses the later allegation about campaign funding.
Why we used this label
Doukoure challenged the characterization and effect of recurring attempts to link El-Sayed to alleged bad actors. Her statement predates and does not directly address Rogers’s specific campaign-finance allegation.
