Maggie Goodlander
Role at the time: U.S. Representative for New Hampshire's 2nd District, on her official X account (@RepGoodlander), with a shorter version on her official Bluesky account
Statement summary
In an X post linking the Washington Post's report, Rep. Maggie Goodlander (D-N.H.) says the matter is a betrayal, not a bookkeeping error, and that she and colleagues are leading a bill that will prevent Hegseth and the Pentagon "from covering up troop casualties".
“This is not a bookkeeping error — it is a betrayal.”

Why we used this label
Goodlander, in a post linking the Post's report, rejects a bookkeeping-error explanation, calls the matter a betrayal, and says she is leading a bill to prevent Hegseth and the Pentagon from covering up troop casualties, which expressly denounces the Pentagon's accounting and disclosure. The closest competing label is “Challenged the characterization”, because she rejects the bookkeeping-error description. That loses because she goes on to denounce the conduct itself and to attribute concealment to the Pentagon, rather than only disputing how the discrepancy is described.
